The DHR Club
Windamere Hotel, Darjeeling
The DHR Club that stands for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Club is a small building and is part of the Windamere Hotel Property. It is located in the Snuggery wing of the property and has two wonderful cozy and large rooms that have old heritage designs and reflect a true colonial ambience.
The club is exclusively meant for the VIPs as well as DHR for holding private meetings in small groups. Often there are railway and train enthusiasts who come from countries like England, Japan etc. and have meetings with lunch here.
The DHR Club is also open to the hotel guests if not already booked by the VIPs or the DHR officials for formal meetings. Sometimes when several guests come in groups and want to have dinner together in a cozy private environment, these rooms are given out to them and arrangements made accordingly.

As you enter the DHR Club building, there is a Library Room on the left named 'Lowell Thomas' and a sitting lounge in the right named 'Henrick Haider'. All the rooms in this hotel are named after specials guests or friends of the owner's family.
The library has a lovely old colonial ambience. There is a tall glass cabinet with wooden frames which is stacked with various kinds of books. The wall inside is wooden paneled. The glass windows with while wooden frames add to the gorgeous ambience.

The room on the right is a lounge with similar grand colonial ambience having wooden paneled walls, sofas, chairs, television sets etc. Shubhana, the General Sales Manager of the hotel mentioned that in the evening when the guests are free, they are invited here for a glass of wine and a 30 minutes documentary film is shown here

The film titled "Other Scenes Other Areas" is about the history of the surrounding place, that of the Observatory Hill and the hotel itself. Elizabeth Clark, the Director Operations of Windamere told me that this documentary was made in the year 1990. There is also a washroom at the end of the passage through which you enter the DHR Club.
